Meet the duo who combined their innovative ideas for helping children build functional skills and succeed in the classroom to design educational approaches that have improved lives around the world.

Andy Bondy, PhD

Andy Bondy is president and co-founder of Pyramid Educational Consultants. Dr. Bondy is an innovative leader in the field of autism and applied behaviour analysis. He directed a statewide public school system for students with autism for fourteen years. He is co-author of the PECS Training Manual. He also wrote the Pyramid Approach to Education, a training manual that offers an integrated orientation to developing effective educational environments blending applied behaviour analysis with functional activities and creative communication strategies. Dr. Bondy received his MA and Ph.D. from the UNC Greensboro, and completed his clinical internship in 1976 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Bondy has presented numerous papers, lectures and workshops in regional, national and international conferences and conventions on behaviour analysis, PECS and the Pyramid Approach to Education. He has remained active in research and writing, and continues to develop new and innovative methods of helping children with autism and related developmental disorders.

Lori Frost, MS, CCC-SLP

Lori Frost is vice-president and co-founder of Pyramid Educational Consultants. She is co-author of The PECS Training Manual. She has been the driving force behind creating PECS, a unique system that allows children with limited communication abilities to initiate communication with teachers, parents, and peers. Ms. Frost has a wealth of background in functional communication training and applied behaviour analysis. She has assisted in the development of a number of training packages designed to teach language and academic skills. Ms. Frost received her BA in speech pathology and audiology from the University of Arkansas, and MS in speech and language pathology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1982. She has worked in many public and private school settings as a speech pathologist. As a Pyramid consultant, Ms. Frost has travelled across the country and the world, teaching workshops on PECS and the Pyramid Approach to Education. She has presented a number of papers and lectures on autism and communication, co-authored several articles and chapters, and is respected by professionals in her field as a leader in functional communication systems.

Our Team

Louise Maggs, MSc

Louise Maggs is a registered Speech and Language Therapist with over ten years' experience working with children and adults with speech, language and social communication difficulties. Louise began her career working in residential schools for children and young adults with autism, implementing the PECS protocol over a 24-hour curriculum. Since joining Pyramid Louise has supported parents, teachers and therapists to successfully implement PECS and the Pyramid Approach to Education in homes, schools, residential care settings and in the community. Louise has had great success in supporting schools to embed the Pyramid Approach to Education across their whole curriculum, resulting in them gaining official certification from Pyramid. Since working for Pyramid Louise developed a greater interest in applied behaviour analysis and went on to achieve an MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis and Therapy, her final dissertation investigating the validity of parent training in implementing PECS. As Clinical Director of Pyramid UK Louise has managerial responsibility and clinical oversight of the whole consultant team, ensuring a consistently high level of training and consultation services. Louise has a wealth of experience in working with individuals with communication difficulties and a passion for teaching functional skills within the curriculum.

Andrew Yates, BSc, PGCE QTS

Since completing an undergraduate degree in psychology at Plymouth University, Andy initially spent three years working as a Residential Social Worker. During this time he worked in a variety of settings working with adults with mental health issues and severe learning difficulties to teenagers with Autism. He supported a wide range of individual needs across a 24 hour curriculum, focusing largely on developing and implementing independence skills programmes.

In 2001 Andy graduated from Bath Spa University with a PGCE and spent four years teaching in mainstream primary schools. As a KS1 teacher Andy gained valuable experience of implementing, assessing and reviewing the national curriculum strategies and targets, alongside developing classroom management skills.

From 2005 Andy specialised in working in Special Educational Needs schools. Since then has worked with children across all key stages with a wide array of complex needs, including PMLD, MLD, Emotional Behavioural Difficulties, and Autism. During his time working at a setting for pupils with emtional and behavioural difficulties Andy became very experienced with managing challenging behaviours and has a particular interest in developing individual and classroom management techniques. Andy has undertaken further training in the implementation of Team Teach, SCIPP, and TCI crisis management techniques.

Whilst working within Autism specific schools, Andy has used PECS as an integral part of teaching functional communication skills. Andy joined Pyramid in 2013 and is especially interested in promoting effective teaching practises whilst working with challenging behaviour, employing PECS as a means of developing communication skills.

Sue Baker C. Psychol.

Sue Baker MBE 1947 - 2013

Sue was the Director of Pyramid Educational Consultants UK until September 2009 when she retired. She worked as an educational psychologist in the UK for over 20 years and had extensive experience of implementing programmes based on applied behaviour analysis. Sue worked with many children, parents and professionals to set up and extend PECS programmes in home and school settings. Following her organisation of the first National PECS Conference in the UK in 1998, Sue established the UK base for Pyramid Educational Consultants.

Sue passed away on 9th July 2013, she had been unwell for quite some time. She was an inspirational woman, without whom PECS UK would not be what it is today. Sue gave a voice to thousands of individuals and touched many, many lives. She is missed both as a colleague and friend.
